We have attempted to anticipate your possible questions and to answer them. However, should you have other questions, let us know and we will answer you as quickly as possible.

• What type of people are you looking for?

We are looking for adaptable and understanding people who possess a positive mentality, open and willing to learn, and especially to join a group or team MULTICULTURAL, maintaining the unity of the group, these last two are very important to succeed in your participation with us.

• How long can I work with S D Projec – Peru?

We ask that you commit to a minimum of 8 weeks (if you become used to it and enjoy it, we can extend your stay). We do recommend a lengthier stay, since it would help to increase the quality of the volunteering effort (from a pedagogical point for the children, adapting to community development etc.)

• Do I have to pay to become a volunteer?

No

• Where will I stay?

You can stay in our Volunteers’ Accommodation. It is comfortable and safe, and you will share with other volunteers and us. It is a sociable and fun cultural exchange.
It is equipped with safe drinking water, a bathtub and shower with hot water, electricity and television.
We are a small organisation. Therefore, we do not have the resources to cover your stay. If you decide to stay in our Volunteers’ Accommodation, we would be grateful for your assistance in covering expenses related to the maintenance of this establishment.

• What type of food is provided?

For the moment, we only provide breakfast, or if you prefer basic foods, so that you can prepare in our kitchen, your own breakfast or meals, these consist of: milk, coffee, bread, seasonal fruits, cereals Local, butter and jam.
You also have the option to learn how to cook Peruvian-style food. One of our objectives is cultural exchange. Therefore, we consider cooking to be part of the experience.

• How do I get to Huancayo?

From Lima Airport you can catch the bus to Huancayo. The trip from Lima to Huancayo is 7 hours.
Of course, if we are available, we can wait for you at Lima Airport and accompany you to Huancayo.

• Health and vaccinations

Before leaving, please familiarise yourself with as much information as possible on common illnesses and diseases local to the places that you will be visiting during your travels.
Vaccinations against Yellow Fever, Hepatitis B, Tetanus and Typhoid are necessary.

• What is the climate in Huancayo?
  The climate in Huancayo varies depending on the season. The average annual temperature is 18.6°C or 74.6°F. The lowest temperature is 4.3°C or 39.7°F. The rainy season starts slowly in October and continues until April. You should bring light clothing for the daytime and a jacket, sweater and a hat for the evenings

• Is the city of Huancayo safe?

Huancayo is a relatively safe city in comparison to other cities, such as Lima and Trujillo. However, as with any city in any part of the world, you must be sensible, avoid exposing yourself to unnecessary risks and never walk alone at night.

• Are there ATMs in Huancayo?

There are ATMs in all cities throughout the country. You can perform international transactions using all types of credit cards, such as Visa.

• Various expenses

Other expenses that you may incur will depend on how you wish to live during your visit. Purchases and services are on average half or a third cheaper than those in Europe.

• Will I be able to travel in my free time?

Yes, of course! On Saturdays and Sundays (and at times on Fridays), we organise trips and grupal tours to many beautiful and interesting places around the location of the project. Since these are not commercial tour-operated trips. Guides around the location of the project are free. However, at times, trips may be very long and it is appropriate to tip your guides (to cover their accommodation costs).
In addition, if you wish, we can offer guided tours to any tourist attraction in Peru, at a lower cost than any of the commercial travel agencies. This helps us to fund our projects.

• What is a typical day in the volunteer house?

We normally have breakfast at 9:00. Later, we have a meeting to go over the daily plan, after which we leave to work (our daily objectives vary according to the day). Lunch is around 13:30. Once work is over, we return home around 18:30 – 19:00 to prepare for eating dinner at 20:00. We are flexible with timetables. Overall, we only work from Monday to Friday, though it can vary according to conditions.

• Do I need a visa in order to travel to Peru?

Citizens from Spain, the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand do not need to procure visas for entry into Peru.

• What should I bring with me?
